The courthouse

The Isle of Man Courts of Justice operate from a purpose built courthouse in the capital of the Island, Douglas.
This building opened in 1996 and provides a new, larger location which replaced the old courthouse on Athol Street, which had been in use since 1857. There is also, however, a small courthouse in Castletown (in the grounds of Castle Rushen) which is still used once a month.
For an interesting look at the history of the courts and the previous courthouses you may wish to look at our History of the Courts section.
